HYPNOTHERAPY / MYTHS AND LEGENDS |
|---|
I am still often asked the questions... does it work and of course the next and obvious question, will I make them cluck like a chicken. well, to answer in order...yes it does and no I wont. It's understandable I suppose that some people still think that hypnotherapy is some kind of magic..well it's not. But it is a very powerful tool in helping people overcome many emotional and psychical problems.
I think many people still look at the stage hypnotist and assume we behave in the same manner. Nothing, is further from the truth. Hypnosis is mearly a nice form of relaxation at which time we can guide the client to explore the subconscious. It should be noted that at all time you are fully aware and can get up and be totally fine any time throughout the session. It isn't magic and at no time are you out of control, in fact your perceptions are more acutely focused and atuned whilst in this relaxed state.
In todays society, the power of the psyche is far more understood than it was in the days of Freud. His ideas though and suppositions opened the door to modern day hypnotherapy ,hypnoanalysis and psychotherapy.
The other evening I was chatting to some people about panic attacks. They were consulting me as to how we could work to bring about a cessation of these emotionally crippling episodes. Most people I have treated for panic attacks have told me more or less the same, that they thought they were having a heart attack/palpitations and the like, trouble breathing and complete confusion as to where these feelings came from. Many have told me they have an idea what has triggered these attacks but if that were so, it is quite possible that there would be no emotional response. So I explained that when treating This debilitating symptom, I seach for the initial sensitizing event, the trigger, that moment that we need to discover in order to release the sufferer from further attacks.
This all sounds quite straight forward they said and yes I suppose it is. Working together we can bring about great changes. Thats what hypnotherapy is all about in essence, bringing about possitive changes to every client that walks through my consuting room door. I see my work with each client as a journey, a journey on which we embark together, to bring about that positive change.
